Frequently Asked Questions...

Is CozyWedge safe?
CozyWedge meets or exceeds all federal safety guidelines for crib bumpers. This is not true for many crib bumpers on the market today. In addition, CozyWedge has been evaluated by an independent safety testing organization and found to be nonflammable and free of mechanical hazards. Our wedge-shaped bumper also offers other possible benefits that traditional padded bumpers do not. The hard surface of the foam will not compress when baby rolls against it, so it does not form a pocket around the baby’s mouth and nose. This is a known hazard of the padded “couch-cushion” style of bumper. CozyWedge’s low profile also improves visibility into the crib, allowing frequent, easy checks on baby, even from a distance – something experts stress is an undervalued but extremely important safety measure parents can take to ensure the wellbeing of their baby.  While the risk of injury from a crib bumper is low, it is important to note that many experts say the absolute safest environment for a baby is in a crib with no soft bedding or bumpers of any kind. For the many parents who want to have some kind of protective barrier around the crib, however, CozyWedge is a simpler, safer alternative to the traditional bumper.

Can CozyWedge be used with babies of any age?
Safety guidelines suggest removing crib bumpers when a baby can sit up and pull to a standing position. That’s because research has shown that babies are the least likely to find their way out of the crib when there is a full 21” of height from the top of the mattress to the top of the crib rail – and nothing to climb up on. However, for a variety of reasons, many parents leave bumpers in the crib beyond this age. CozyWedge’s low profile gives the climbing baby a much smaller foothold to use for climbing out of the crib compared with many of the bigger, padded bumpers on the market today.

What is CozyWedge made of?
Our slipcovers are 100 percent cotton, and our solid colors are made of 100% organic cotton. The foam wedge inserts are made of polyethylene foam, which has absolutely no odor, no VOC’s and no CFC’s. It is the same foam used in children’s swimming noodles. Because our product is manufactured in the USA, we have total quality control over the manufacturing process.

Why do you say CozyWedge is a “simpler” bumper?
Many parents find traditional padded bumpers, which can have as many as 16 to 20 strings to tie around the crib, are a hassle – especially when it’s time to change the bed sheets. An entire industry of furniture and accessories has popped up around the difficulty of changing the crib sheets when there’s a bumper in the crib. But a simpler bumper is all you need! CozyWedge only has six ties, yet stays firmly in place because it rests on the mattress; it doesn’t rely on ties to stay up.

Is it hard to put together?
No! It will take you a few minutes to insert the foam wedges – and you have to be sure they are all facing the same way as you slide them in. The only other step is attaching the two slipcover tubes together with the hook and loop fasters. But once it’s put together, taking it out of the crib and putting it back in is a cinch! There are step by step assembly instructions on this website (under the How It Works button) and also on the packaging.

How do you take it out?
The best way to remove your CozyWedge to change the crib sheets is to just untie one side (that’s just three ties). Then the entire bumper can be lifted over the opposite side of the crib, lifting the entire bumper up and out of the way. This allows full access to the mattress and bedding.  To put it back, just pull the bumper back over the rail, let it fall back into the crib, then push into place and attach the three ties.

Are the slipcovers washable?
Yes, you can slide the wedges out of each slipcover tube (sort of like squeezing out toothpaste) quite easily then put the slipcovers in the washing machine and dryer. We recommend washing the slipcovers before putting them in the crib the first time for the best fit – they are made with a slight shrinkage allowance.  You can use warm water, but don’t’ use hot water or high heat in the dryer or the slipcovers will be extra tight. They will still be usable, it’ll just be a tighter getting the wedges into the slipcovers.  Remember to remove the slipcovers promptly from the dryer! If they are wrinkled you can lightly iron them to look good as new.

Can you buy a second set of slipcovers?
Unfortunately at this time we do not sell slipcovers separately, but we hope to in the future!

How will I know if the slipcover will match my bedding?
We will send you swatches of any two slipcover fabrics for free. For swatches of more than two slipcover fabrics, we will charge a minimal $5 fee, payable by credit card. Please send an email to info@inspiredideas.com to request your two swatches. For more swatches call our office at 202-966-4775.

Is CozyWedge returnable?
If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you can return it to the address on the website within 14 days and we will issue a full refund. Sorry, shipping costs are not refundable.
